Ohio Chemistry Technology Center (OCTC)’s 31st Annual Teachers, Industry and Environment (TIE) Conference takes place from Wed.-Fri., Oct. 16-18, in Columbus, Ohio. This free, hands on experience is tailored for Ohio’s 3rd through 8th grade science educators. The TIE Conference provides educators with a wide range of science experiments and classroom tools that create interesting and entertaining lessons for students. Stipends will be provided for travel, lodging, and meals. Check out the full agenda and register here.

More than 1,000 students participated in this year’s Out-of-School Time Young Entrepreneur Pitch Challenge with entries from programs across the country. This included top scoring entries from statewide contests as well as individual entries in three age categories, K-4, 5-8, and 9-12. Thank you to all of the participants, mentors, and judges. YIPPEE is a grant delivery platform that provides educators access to entrepreneurship education resources for free. All parties involved get a say in what resources reach our students:

Designed in collaboration with the KSU Center for Educational Technology, this program invites K-12 educators to create a lesson plan using resources available on YIPPEE. All participants will earn a certificate of 13 contact hours (free) or the option for a graduate credit ($165 fee). This is a great way for educators to earn credit, plan curriculum for next year, and learn about free entrepreneurship education resources. Learn more about this ongoing program and register here.

Mr. Chris Stallworth was instrumental in crafting and guiding the C.S. Mott Foundation’s entrepreneurship grants to support entrepreneurship programs for young people in Flint, MI, and in afterschool programs across the country. This $1,000 scholarship award in his memory will be given directly to a high school student pitch competitor who exhibits the entrepreneurial mindset of persistence and grit. BUILD’s Design Challenge empowers students to take action as they work to develop innovative solutions for their communities. Students are guided through the entire design thinking process using their new digital platform. The content was created to empower students nationwide and give them a sense of self-agency.
